How Wine Gets Its Color?



A wine’s color comes primarily from the grape skins. When making red wine, the juice is fermented with the skins, allowing pigments called anthocyanins to be absorbed into the liquid, giving the wine its deep red or purple hue. The longer the skins stay in contact with the juice, the more intense the color becomes. In contrast, white wines are typically made by fermenting the juice without the skins, resulting in a lighter, clearer appearance. The type of grape, length of fermentation, and winemaking process all influence the final color of a wine.
